Your Hospital Stay. Part 2

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

“My baby loves to be wrapped up really tight but I can’t make the blankets stay like they could in the hospital.”

Your nurses will offer you the education you need to feel comfortable in the complete care of your baby: bathing, umbilical cord care, diapering, taking temperatures, circumcision care, and swaddling. (more…)

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

One of the very best things you can do for yourself and your new baby is to take advantage of your hospital stay. Private insurance as well as federally subsidized programs now allow Moms and babes several days, depending on your method of delivery. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about your new baby and get a bit of rest before heading home. (more…)

Doctor as Patient. Part 2

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

The moment of truth came when the rather persistent nurse got an oxygen saturation reading on Alex. His saturation was in the eighty percent range (a normal range would be more than ninety five percent). I was told that the baby needed to go to the neonatal ICU for some CPAP. (more…)

Doctor as Patient. Part 1

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

I knew before the “plus” sign appeared in the window of the home pregnancy test, that this was not going to be “routine”. And it wasn’t. The moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here! Come to Renaissance if your membranes rupture (gush or leak), or if you are having regular contractions that are 5 minutes apart and lasting about 60 seconds in duration. However, always feel free to call the hospital and/or your physician if you are unsure.

PMS, Dairy and Me

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

From early childhood until seven years ago I was fed dairy products like water. My family was convinced that if I didn’t eat dairy products I would shrivel up and die! Today, after being on a complete plant-based diet for seven years I’m happy to say that I’m much better for eliminating the poison. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
