Sisters’ Story

Grab Your Readers by the Hand and Take them for a Ride

When I write something, my hope is that it can move someone to either action or instill a deeper understanding of a social issue. I believe this is the case with many authors. The very thing that drives us to pick up a pen is what also moves our readers. Many of us writers read the newspaper or watch the news for ideas, drawing inspiration from the media. (more…)

Our law school class was the first to realize the effects of Proposition 209, which says that race should not be taken into account when making decisions in public universities. The unfortunate result was that only 18 African Americans were accepted to what was once one of the most ethnically diverse law schools in the country. Of those 18 who were accepted, none chose to attend.

In July, the IWF presented a panel on Capitol Hill to a packed crowd of congressional summer interns to discuss a new book, The Diversity Hoax, edited by Marc Berley and David Wienir, past and present law students at the University of California at Berkeley. It is a collection of essays by students describing their frustrating encounters with diversity prejudice on campus. Several groups joined us in organizing this event: the Foundation for Academic Standards and Tradition (FAST), the Center for New Black Leadership, the Center for Equal Opportunity, and the Federalist Society.
